The Arbors at Rancho Penasquitos Assisted Living and Memory Care was recently voted in the Top 5 for the Best Assisted Living Communities in San Diego. Each year the San Diego Union Tribune asks readers to tell them who are the best amongst a variety of areas that make life great in San Diego. Beginning in May, the paper asked readers to nominate their favorite local places for everything from shopping, surfing and clubbing to dining, banking and relaxing. For 20 days in June the votes came in. In all 538,032 tallies were exacted. To answer local San Diego residents question: Who Do You Love for Assisted Living Facilities? The Arbors came in the Top 5.

Each year the California Assisted Living Association (CALA)
recognizes a few outstanding assisted living employees that are nominated
amongst the many thousands that work in the State of California. Thomas “TJ”
Lynch won the prestigious
“Outstanding Team Member Award” for the 2011 Fall Excellence in
Service Awards presented recently at a CALA Awards ceremony.
TJ has been a cook at The Arbors at Rancho Penasquitos Assisted Living
and Memory Care for over five years, starting as a dishwasher in assisted
living when he was 16 years old, and has now been in assisted living for over
20 years. TJ is a wonderful cook that constantly receives high praise from all
the residents at The Arbors. As many
know, food quality is a huge part of daily life in assisted living and the
amazing thing about TJ is, as good as he is as a cook, he is an even better
person. “To look at TJ you would see a very big man that
would intimidate most, however he could not be a more caring person.
TJ has a true passion for seniors,” said
Ryan Test, Executive Director at The Arbors. He truly loves all the residents and greets them personally at every
meal. In a recent conversation he told Ryan, “I love my job, I never am not
excited to come to work.” You can cook food anywhere, but it is his passion for seniors that makes
him special. TJ is always available to help anyone in any department. Being a
big and strong guy, he is often called on to assist caregivers with residents
and he never hesitates. TJ is also the father of four children and is a great dad. TJ is a huge
asset to The Arbors and a friend to all the residents. It is a well-deserved honor that he be
recognized amongst his peers for his devotion, passion and excellence he brings
to The Arbors everyday.

The
California Assisted Living Association (CALA) recognized Hilda Van Boom as the
Outstanding Caregiver of the Year in 2009 from all the caregivers working in
assisted living communities across the State of California. Hilda’s receipt of
this prestigious award was based on her extraordinary commitment to providing
outstanding quality of care and service to residents at The Arbors of Rancho
Penasquitos Assisted Living and Memory Care.
According to
her co-workers, Hilda Van Boom has a special ability to communicate with
residents, going above and beyond her job duties to make residents happy. She
coaches other employees to respect each resident and takes the time to assist
them in every way possible. Co-workers report that residents are so well cared
for that they specifically ask to have Hilda assigned to their section of the
community. On a regular basis, Hilda stops what she is doing to help a resident
not directly assigned to her. “Hilda takes
great pride in her career and our residents have benefited, “said Charles
Bloom, her former Executive Director at The Arbors and the 2011 CALA Executive
Director of the Year. “She leads by example and has improved quality of life
for members of The Arbors family. Hilda is truly a positive force in the lives
of residents and fellow staff member.”
